This week is our 1 year anniversary, and since I don't want to actually spend my anniversary sitting in front of the computer blogging, I will write a thing or 2 about it today, a couple of days early.
First of all, wow! I can't believe how fast that year zipped by. At the risk of boring a number of the readers of my blog who were actually there for all of this, I think I'll just reminisce about that day a little. We set up our sealing time to be in the late morning. I am not a morning person and did not want to have to get up at 2 AM or something to be at the temple on time. I still had to get up pretty early since a bride is supposed to be beautiful on her wedding day and beauty can be quite the process. My hair dresser came to my house and did my hair and makeup right there, which was really nice, and also saved me the drive down to the vortex of insularity (aka Provo) where her salon is located. Then we hopped in our big green van and went to pick up Zack and his parents and we drove downtown to the Salt Lake temple. As I was getting my dress out of the van, I scraped my knuckle on the van, causing it to bleed. I have a scar on my knuckle from that to remind me of my wedding day forever. Our ceremony was just perfect... definitely the highlight of the day. It was so sweet to see our family and friends who were there to share the day with us. Our sealer was just the cutest thing. I found his obituary in the paper just a couple of months after our wedding. So sad.
After the ceremony, we took about a bzillion pictures, which I actually loved every minute of. Temple Square was packed with people since it was lunch time, and there were a bunch of families down there too. It was so fun to watch all the little girls who couldn't peel their eyes off of me. I know I was the same way when I was a little girl, watching those brides, imagining what it would be like when I got there, and there I was. It was a little breezy that day- absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, when the breeze is going, they sometimes opt not to turn on the fountain on temple square because the mist will blow around and get business men in expensive suits a little wet. We waited for it, and took a bunch of pictures while we waited, but we realized after a while that it wasn't coming on....... and then, by a stroke of luck, we happened upon one of the fountain-turner-on-er guys, who turned it on just for us. Perfect!

We arrived at our luncheon late because we just couldn't get enough pictures of ourselves. Everyone was there at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building waiting and we had a delightful little lunch. Zack's mom sang a couple of songs, his brother Sam played the clarinet, and we and the parents made our little speeches.

It was really fabulous. After the luncheon, we drove home, watched our wedding video with Zack's parents, and then set out with them toward the reception center. Traffic was crazy, but we finally made it to the adorable little greenhouse in Sandy and we took even more pictures.

Zack's aunt, who was so stinkin' sweet and made our cake for us, had to drive down from Bountiful, it was August, and there was a lot of traffic. By the time she arrived, our cake was a pile of mush. To be honest, I didn't have my heart set on a wedding cake in the first place, and actually ended up opting to have one only because she was able to make it for us, so I wasn't upset or anything. I just thought it was funny. The thing I felt most bad about was all the effort she had put into it, only to have it ruined. Anyway, she reassembled it right then and there and it turned out pretty darn good, especially considering what it looked like when it arrived. That is a fond memory of mine.

The reception is mostly a blur, but we loved every minute of it. So many wonderful people came. I was dead set on not doing a bouquet toss or the whole garter thing (absolutely disgusting!) so we skipped that. We just cut the cake, danced a couple of dances and then we were off. What a fun day.
We stayed at the Anniversary Inn in the cutest little room with a loft,
a waterfall, and a bed that looked like we were sleeping under a bunch of trees.
We didn't leave for our honeymoon until 2 days after our wedding so the day after, we opened our gifts and wrote all of our thank you notes as we opened them. So we had all our notes written even before the honeymoon. Yes, I am bragging. Sorry. If you are reading this and you gave us the rice cooker, we still owe you a thank you. There was no name on that gift, which is so sad because we love it to death and use it all the time.
So it was the most perfect day ever. And here we are, 1 year later. Too crazy.

Holy cute new layout! And congratulations. :)
I'm so impressed how you got your thank-you notes out so quickly! I think that definitely warrants some bragging.
It was fun to see you and your family at your reception. Was that really a year ago??
You guys are so great! Yay! Oh, and your cake is AMAZING! :) I'd like to see a picture of what it was like before, because it looks perfect there.
Oh, and we didn't get you the rice cooker. (Tsk, tsk, Robert). Although, if yours ever breaks, we would be first in line to get you your next one. :)
