We actually got to celebrate our anniversary last weekend with a little retreat to the shore. Z cut out of work a little early on Friday and we drove down there. After our obligatory episode of getting lost (we can't go anywhere we've never been before- and some places that we have been before- without this happening), we arrived in Wildwood, New Jersey. It was not really a cute little shore town at all. I found it rather tacky, in fact. But our bed and breakfast was absolutely adorable, so that made up for it.
We spent Friday evening exploring the boardwalk, which has 3 amusement parks. We did not ride any of the rides. Those things are always so expensive, and we were planning on hitting up Six Flags soon anyway. We did enjoy the carnival-like atmosphere and we ate some ultra cheap (and pretty nasty) boardwalk food. There were fireworks in the evening, which was really fun.
Saturday was our beach day. We actually went in the ocean this time. We usually dip our feet in and stuff, but this time we went in much farther. The water was so pleasant. In fact, it was downright warm. We also played wiffle ball, which Z loved. He was like a little kid, so happy and excited. And we got sunburnt. We really are way too white to be real beach bums.
After the beach, we made a little trip down to Cape May, the adorable little down on the southern tip of New Jersey. We went and saw the lighthouse there,
checked out the cute (but not free) beaches, and window shopped a little. It was much more charming than Wildwood. That's probably why it would have cost so much more to stay in a bed and breakfast there. After we got back from Cape May, we enjoyed a quiet evening sitting in the hot tub on the veranda of our bed and breakfast, and then watching DVDs. Sunday morning we got up and came home. So now we are back from our relaxing vacation and back into the real life swing of things.
