She was just a normal person, whatever normal means. She was getting a little bit older, but was still very independent. She had friends and family and she enjoyed their company. She did all the routine things that you and I do. Then, one day, she decided to do a very ordinary thing. She went grocery shopping. On her way back into the house with an armful of groceries, everything changed. She fell and hit her head.
Now, she lies in a bed all day every day. A big piece of her brain is missing on the left side and her skull sinks in there. She has a feeding tube to provide her nutrition and a trach to help her breathe. She hardly moves and seems to be basically unaware of most things that are going on around her.
I was just thinking about this story and others that I encounter at work every day. Today, I am very grateful for my health and my life and the people that I care about and that care about me. I want to send my love out to all of you. Life can be so frail, and it's you, my friends and family, who help me make the most of it.
